
John Lee Rayzer, Sr.
1915-03-11 1997-03-03John Lee Rayzer, Sr. was born on March 11, 1915, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was the second born of two sons of the union of Maggie Olivia Pugh and Leo Rayzer. His parents moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during his early childhood.
While living in Pittsburgh, John attended trade school, enjoyed running track and winning bowling contests with his older brother, Clarence Rayzer, Sr.
During his yound adulthood, while still living in Pittsburgh, he entered into a 56 year long union of marriage on October 23, 1937, to his beloved wife, the late Miss Ivern Mae Burch. This union was relocated to New York City, where it brought forth four sons: John Lee, Jr., Thedrus Charles, Sr., Terrence Kevin and Eric Sean.
A veteran of World War II, John served four years in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged from the United States Army April 11, 1946. John was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Inc. at the Riverton Houses for 20 years. He was a loyal employee for over 30 years for Dr. John L.S. Hollman, Jr. of the Riverton Laboratories. And then retired after 20 years of service with the New York City Housing Authority.
John Lee Rayzer, Sr. will be remembered as "Daddy", the devoted husband, dedicated father and hard working provider for his family, friend and loved ones. He leaves to mourn him: a daugher, Jeanette Williams, Pittsburgh, PA.; five sons: Eugene Campbell, Highland Hill, Ohio, John Lee, Jr., Thedrus Charles, Sr., Terrence Kevin, and Eric Sean, all of New York City; three grandsons: John Lee III, Thedrus Charles, Jr., and Brandon B'Shar; two great-grand sons: Kahlil Anthony and Taequan Charles; a sister: Mrs. Louise Daniels, Pittsburgh, PA.; two sister-in-laws: Mrs. Ruth Summers and Mrs. Marvina Bryant of the Bronx, NY, and a great host of loving nieces, nephews and friend.
